    Description / Table of Contents: Microstructural, mechanical and corrosive properties of friction stir welded aluminium jointsFriction stir welding (FSW) is a novel solid state welding process. It allows joining of high strength aluminum alloys, generally considered as difficult-to-weld with conventional technologies, without loss in joint strength. Results of investigations on selfmade FSW butt joints of the aluminum alloys 2024-T3 and 6013-T4 are presented. First, the microstructure of the weld seam and heat affected zone is characterised metallographically and by hardness measurements. By tensile, fatigue endurance (SN) and fatigue crack propagation tests it is demonstrated, that especially the FSW-joints of 2024-T3 sustain high mechanical loadings. Investigations on the corrosion properties reveal a certain sensitivity of the 2024-T3 joints to intergranular and exfoliation corrosion.
    Notes: Das Reibrührschweißen (friction stir welding FSW) ist ein neues Fügeverfahren, mit dem auch die schwer schmelzschweißbaren, höherfesten Aluminiumlegierungen ohne große Festigkeitsverluste verschweißt werden können. Erste Ergebnisse von Untersuchungen an selbst hergestellten FSW-Stumpfnähten der Aluminiumlegierungen 2024-T3 und 6013-T4 werden vorgestellt. Zunächst wird das Gefüge der Naht und der Wärmeeinflußzone mikrostrukturell und durch Härteverläufe charakterisiert. Weiterhin wird mit Zug-, Schwingfestigkeits- und Rißfortschrittsversuchen nachgewiesen, daß insbesondere die FSW-Nähte der Legierung 2024-T3 außerordentlich hohe mechanische Belastungen ertragen. Abschließende Korrosionsuntersuchungen der FSW-Nähte zeigen eine gewisse Anfälligkeit der abschreckempfindlichen Legierung 2024-T3 für interkristalline Korrosion und Schichtkorrosion.

    Notes: An experimental animal model was developed to investigate the release of metal ions from nonprecious dental alloys. Cast specimens of five Ni—Cr-alloys and Co—Cr-alloys were implanted intramuscularly in rabbits for periods of 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. The concentrations of nickel, chromium, cobalt, and molybdenum in the implantloaded muscles were determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and neutron activation analysis (NAA). Reference muscle samples of each animal were analyzed to determine the individual control values. Significant increases in the tissue concentrations of these metals occurred in the immediate vicinity of the implants. Concentration gradients of the corrosion products were found between the implant contact tissue and the implant periphery (p 〈 0.001). Tissue concentrations of nickel and chromium correlated (r 〈 0.7). Microprobe analysis before and after implantation of the alloy specimens indicated an even corrosive loss of the alloy surfaces and changes in the surface element distributions. Advantages and limitations of this animal model are discussed, as well as its application in future studies.

    Description / Table of Contents: The factors are enumerated which can influence a synthetic template reaction. The preparation of acrylyl esters of molecular homogeneous phenolic condensates (rationally synthesized1 novolaks) by treatment with acrylyl chloride is reported. These were polymerized under conditions which limited the propagation reaction of the acrylyl substituents to a single oligomeric molecule. This new variation of polymerization technique is named intramolecular cyclooligomerization since the products are molecular homogeneous cyclooligomers. Hydrolysis of these cyclooligomers yielded molecularly homogeneous acids. Which were characterized by reaction with p-nitrobenzyl bromide as well as elemental analysis and molecular weight determinations of the p-nitrobenzyl oligo-acrylates. In addition, the molecularly homogeneous oligo-acids very probably consist of a regular sequence of head to tail linkages which terminate with a head to head unit. The head to head structure results from termination by addition with a catalyst radical. The molecular homogeneity and the regular sequence of acrylic acid units are evidence for a synthetic template reaction.
    Notes: Zunächst werden Faktoren genannt, die eine synthetische Matrizenreaktion beeinflussen können. Dann wird die Herstellung von Estern aus Acrylsäurechlorid mit Phenolaten molekulareinheitlicher, phenolischer Mehrkernverbindungen (durch rationale Synthese1 hergestellte Novolake) beschrieben. Es fanden sich Bedingungen, unter denen eine Polymerisation der Acrylsäurereste auf ein und dasselbe Molekül beschränkt blieb. Diese neue Polymerisationsvariante wird intramolekulare Cyclooligomerisation genannt, da die erhaltenen Produkte molekulareinheitliche Cyclooligomere sind. Eine Hydrolyse dieser Cyclooligomeren ergab molekulareinheitliche Säuren, wie die Umsetzung mit p-Nitrobenzylbromid sowie Elementaranalysen und Molekulargewichtsbestimmungen der Ester zeigten. Außerdem haben die molekulareinheitlichen oligomeren Acrylsäuren sehr wahrscheinlich eine regelmäßige Sequenz von 1,3-verknüpften Grundbausteinen; diese schließt mit einer 1,2-verknüpften Einheit ab. Die 1,2-Verknüpfung stammt von der Abbruchreaktion mit einem Radikal aus dem Katalysator. Molekulareinheitlichkeit und die durch die molekulare Geometrie der phenolischen Trägermoleküle bedingte Sequenz der Acrylsäureeinheiten sind Kennzeichen einer synthetischen Matrizenreaktion.
