Notes: Abstract We present frequency measurements of 85 Far Infrared (FIR) laser lines ranging from 2 748 GHz to 421 GHz. We use the heterodyne technique of mixing FIR laser transitions and microwave radiation on MIM point contact diodes to determine the FIR frequencies.

Notes: Abstract By using monochromatic sources of radiation we measured the reflectivity and transmission vs temperature behavior of YBaCuO thin film in the Far Infrared region in the range 300-20 K. A smooth change of optical properties is observed from critical temperature down to 40 K with an evident reduction of the losses for all the frequencies we examined. To analyze the use of YBaCuO films as semireflecting elements in submillimeter devices we made a preliminary study of the optical properties of the substrate in the same conditions. The permanence of the sample in a superconducting phase can be deduced from its room-temperature transmittance, as it changes drastically if some degeneracy occurs in the film.

Notes: Abstract We have measured the frequencies of four CH3OH far-infrared laser lines that were previously known only by wavelength measurement. Two of these lines turned out to be doublets, bringing the total number of measured lines to six. We can now confirm the assignments of five of them and definitely disprove the assignments proposed for the sixth. In particular we confirm the assignments for the four strong laser lines at 205 and 208 µm pumped by the 9-P(34) CO2 laser line. These lines share a common upper level in the first excited CO-stretch state, and terminate in the upper and lower levels of a hybrid state with J=5. Heterodyne frequency measurements and conventional microwave spectroscopy show that both lines are split into two components approximately 3.5 MHz apart. The origin of this further splitting is interpreted as a perturbed K-splitting.

Notes: Abstract We used a Stark-Optoacoustic cell and hybrid waveguide resonators to perform an Infrared and Far Infrared Stark Spectroscopy study on some transitions of13CD3OH. Different behaviours of the transitions in the presence of a d.c. electric field were observed. The Stark splittings of six FIR laser lines ranging from 34 to 136 MHz/kVcm−1 were determined. The analysis of the behaviour of the IR and FIR transitions in the presence of the external electric fields gives important and exclusive information on the levels involved in the transitions.
