Abstract The kinetics of surface film formation from DOPC small unilamellar liposomes spread at the air-water interface was studied. A simple theoretical and experimental approach was used. It was found that the surface transformation process was accelerated under photodynamic lipid peroxidation in presence of methylene blue and red light illumination. A theoretical approach, coupling the photodynamic action and the process of spreading of liposomes was developed. The mechanisms of photomodification and destabilization of the liposomal bilayer structures was analyzed.
