Notes: Abstract The recoilless nuclear gamma resonance of the 127 keV γ-rays of101Ru was observed in ruthenium metal, RuO2 and [Ru(NH3)4(HSO3)2]. By comparison of the isomer shifts observed in these materials for the 127 keV absorption line with the corresponding shifts of the 90keV γ-rays of99Ru one obtains δ〈r 2〉 [127 keV]/ δ〈r 2〉 [90 keV]=1.78±0.26 for the ratio of the changes of the mean square nuclear charge radii between the first excited and the ground states in these nuclei. An estimate of electron density differences based on free-ion relativistic self-consistent field calculations yields δ〈r 2〉[90keV]≈+1.4·10−3 for99Ru and δ〈r 2〉/〈r 2〉 [127 keV]≈+2.4·10−3 for the101Ru case. These results are discussed in terms of the core excitation model.

    Notes: Abstract Mössbauer transmission experiments with the 137, 155, 69 and 187 keV gamma rays of186, 188, 189, 190Os, respectively, yielded the electric quadrupole splitting of these gamma resonance lines in OsO2 and OsP2. From the results the following ratios of quadrupole moments were derived:Q 2 +(186Os, 137 keV):Q 2 +(188Os, 155keV):Q 2 +(190Os, 187 keV):Q 3/2 −(189Os, g.s.)=(+1.100±0.020): 1.0:(+0.863±0.051): (−0.586±0.011) andQ 5/2 −(189Os, 69 keV)/Q 3/2 −(189Os, g.s.)=−0.735 ±0.012. The ratios for180, 188, 190Os are, within their limits of error, in agreement with the expectation of the rotational model, indicating that the pairing-plusquadrupole model calculations of Kumar and Baranger predict too rapid a transition form rotational to vibrational nuclei. Applying this argument to186Os in particular and using the measured ratios, one obtains a set of values for the quadrupole moments themselves, namelyQ 2 + (186Os)=−(1.50 ± 0.10)b,Q 2 +(188Os)=−(1.36± 0.09) b,Q 2 + (190Os)=−(1.18 ± 0.08) b,Q 3/2 −(189Os)=+ (0.80 ± 0.06) b, andQ 5/2 − (189Os)=− (0.59 ± 0.05) b. For the electric field gradient at Os nuclei in Re metal a value ofV zz=−(3.3 ± 0.6) · 1017 V/cm2 was found. A measurement with a magnetically split source yielded δ=+ 0.685 ± 0.025 for theE2/M1 mixing parameter of the 69 keV transition of189Os,g 5/2 −/g 3/2 −=0.895 ± 0.006 for the ratio of theg-factors of the 69 keV state and the groundstate, andH i=−(1135 ± 20) kOe for the hyperfine field at Os nuclei in an iron matrix.

Notes: Abstract The Mössbauer scattering of the 166 keV γ-rays of139La was observed with a source of139Ce in CeO2 and scatterers of La2O3, La(OH)3, LaF3, K3LaF6, LaB6, and LaC2. The isomer shifts obtained for these compounds are compared with isomer shift data for the analogous Pr compounds. From this comparison it is inferred that the change of the mean square nuclear charge radius for the 166 keV transition is positive and of the order of 10−2 fm2.

Notes: Abstract From Mössbauer spectra of the 36.2keV and 69.5keV gamma rays of189Os, isomer shifts and electric quadrupole interactions for a number of chemical compounds of osmium in the oxidation states +8, +6, +4, +3, and +2 were obtained. The results show that the dependence of the isomer shifts on the oxidation state of Os follows the general pattern established for other transition elements like Ru and Ir. A comparison of the isomer shift data with electron densities at the Os nuclei resulting from relativistic self-consistentfield calculations for free Os ions yieldsΔ 〈r2〉 [36 keV]=−2.0 · 10−3 fm2 andΔ 〈r2〉 [69 keV]=−0.13 · 10−3 fm3 for the changes of the mean-square nuclear charge radius of189Os. These values are in qualitative agreement with an interpretation of the low-energy level scheme of189Os in terms of two rotational bands.

Notes: Summary We report on low-temperature (4.2 K)57Fe Mössbauer studies of the ternary alloy system Fe(Sb1−x Te x )2 for 0.5≤x≤1.0. The Mössbauer spectra are electric-quadrupole doublets for all the specimens, indicating a non-magnetic character. The quadrupole splitting decreases with the increase in tellurium concentration. FeTe2 has also been studied in external magnetic fields up to 6T. These experiments show that the electric-field gradient in this alloy is negative and has an asymmetry parameter of η ≈0.7.

Notes: Abstract Isomer shifts of the recoilless 90 keV γ-rays of99Ru were observed in a number of octahedrally coordinated complexes of ruthenium and reveal the influence of different ligands on the electron density at the ruthenium nuclei. For a given oxidation state the observed shifts are correlated with the spectrochemical series; the backbonding properties of ligands like CN−1 and NO+ cause a considerable increase of the electron density. This behaviour is largely similar to that found for compounds of iron and some 5d elements.

    Description / Table of Contents: A Green Paramagnetic Gold Fluoride - Sn1-xAuxF4?Green single crystals were obtained by heating (Au-tube, 450° - 500°C) a mixture of SnF2 and AuF3 (Sn : Au = 1 : 1) which correspond to the SnF4-type [2, 3] (two single crystals, A: 762 Io, R1 = 2.4%; B: 1591 Io, R1 = 1.2% (SHELXL-93); I4/mmm (No. 139); B: a = 404.8(1) pm, c = 796.4(1) pm, c/a = 1.97, ZF2 = 0.2354). Due to atom absorption and Mössbauer measurements the crystals contain Au. The compound is paramagnetic and follows the Curie-Weiß law (14.7-251.3 K, θ = -12 K, μ/μB = 1.55). ESR-experiments confirm that Au is surrounded by 6 F- according to Sn in SnF4 (2 short (187.5 pm) and 4 longer (202.4 pm) distances). The observed Mössbauer spectra could not be interpreted yet, but they don't correspond to any known.
A: 762 Io, R1 = 2,4%; B: 1591 Io, R1 = 1,2% (SHELXL-93); I4/mmm (Nr. 139); B: a = 404,8(1) pm, c = 796,4(1) pm, c/a = 1,97, ZF2 = 0,2354).
