Zusammenfassung Spezielle Behandlungsmaßnahmen sind 1. Stoßartig Steroidhormone, 2. Antithyreoidale Substanzen, 3. Radiojod, 4. Strumaresektion. Die ersten beiden sind passagere Verfahren und ergänzen die definitiven nuklearmedizinischen und operativen Behandlungsmaßnahmen. Differentialtherapeutische Erwägungen knüpfen sich an Lebensalter und Kropfgröße. Für ca. 60 % aller Fälle ist die Radiojodtherapie optimal, je größer eine hyperthyreotische Struma, desto eher ist die Operation indiziert. Detaillierte Gesichtspunkte werden anhand von 3580 eigenen Fällen von Hyperthyreose erörtert.

Summary Special procedures are: (1) Short-term treatment with steroid hormones; (2) antithyroid substances; (3) radioactive iodine; (4) operation. The first two methods are complementary to the definitive procedures of isotope and surgical therapy. The indications conform to the age of the patient and the size of the goiter. The treatment of choice in 60 % of all cases is radioactive iodine; 20–25 % are treated with antithyroid substances only for several years.
