Description / Table of Contents:
The plastifying mechanism of tetrachloro quinone (TCC) in amorphous polystyrene (PS) has been investigated. The experimental results show that this mechanism is interstructural. The glass temperature of the system PS/TCC decreases up to 5 wt.-% of TCC steeply, after which it diminishes slightly and beyond 10% TCC it remains constant. The Newtonian viscosity η0 decreases continuously with the increase of the TCC-concentration in the PS. All the characteristic transitions in PS from 20 to 200°C were obtained on the thermo-depolarizationcurrentogrammes of the investigated samples. From these it becomes evident that the glass temperature decreases to 10% TCC, the α-transition is shifted to lower temperatures and the temperature interval of the highly elastic state is diminished. X-ray studies show that as a result of the plastification the arrangement of the super-molecular structure in PS is diminished. Electron microscopic data indicate the presence of super-molecular structure in the plastified polystyrene. The super-molecular elements and the space between them increase with the increase of TCC-concentration.
Notes:
