Notes: Summary Report on the adrenaline- and nor adrenaline-concentrations (THI-method) in the post-mortem blood of 21 cases with various violent and natural causes of death. The post-mortem time of determination seems to have no important influence on the results; probably there is no remarcable decomposition of catecholamines in the dead body within 2–3 days. In cases of rapid death by coronary insufficience the catecholamine-levels were lower than in cases with morphologically developed heart infarction. Also, the noradrenaline-concentration in many cases was found higher than the adrenaline-level. In cases of violent asphyxia often the catecholamine concentration was increased more than 100 times, and the noradrenaline-level, according toLund, was found lower than the adrenaline-concentration.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The concentration of histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine in skin wounds of huinea pigs and human corpses were determined by means of the fluorometric methods byShore andUdenfriend. The proceedings for getting material, of extraction and measurement were standardized so that it was possible to reproduce the results with an sufficient degree of accuracy. In this connection a comparison was performed between pharmacological and biochemical determination of histamine in skin wound extracts, also concerning the different areas of human body and the postmortal turn of the substances. A significant increase of both — free histamine and serotonin — in correlation to unhurt skin was regularly observed already during the first minutes after wounding. In the further course of wound healing process phases of variable concentrations appeared: after an initial decrease to normal or even to subnormal values they reached two further maxima. The first of them — about 4–6 hours after wounding — coincides with the immigration of mast cells respectively macrophages, whose disruption and depletion in the damaged tissue is shown by aminopeptidase staining. Under suitable conditions the increase of histamine and serotonin as well as the decrease may be considered to be a vital reaction. Moreover it seems possible to gain more distinct statements about the age of wounds by correlating the results of several biochemical and morphological investigations.
