Notes:
A new alkaloid C34H37O5N5, only a very small quantity of which (0.5 to 1%)is present as an accompanying alkaloid of ergotamine, was found in ergot obtained from a variety of sources. The new ergot alkaloid, which was named ergostine, structurally falls midway between ergotamine and ergocristine. It differs from these two alkaloids only in the α-hydroxy-α-amino acid radical, in as far as ergostine contains the α-hydroxy-α-amino butyric acid radical.
