Notes: Abstract Very recently a new molecular mechanism in the tumorigenesis of colorectal carcinoma has been described which is closely linked to hereditary non-polyposis colonic cancer (HNPCC). Ubiquitous changes in the length of simple repetitive DNA sequences between constitutional and tumour DNA occur in about 90% of cases of HNPCC and in about 15% of cases of non-familial, sporadic colorectal carcinoma. Such microsatellite instabilities have been shown to be the phenotypical marker of mutations in the human homologues of prokaryotic mismatch repair genes (MutS, MutL, MutH). These data provide crucial new tools in the detection of patients at high risk of developing colon cancer and other HNPCC-related carcinomas. In addition, these developments provide new insights into a new, presumably primary event in oncogenesis, i.e. the occurrence of mutations in genomic stability genes leading to an increased cellular mutation rate (“mutator phenotype”) and thus to cancer.

Description / Table of Contents: The selfdiffusion coefficients of acetone and benzene are studied in the systems acetone/poly(methylmethacrylate) and benzene/poly(methylmethacrylate) by means of the spin echo technique as function of concentration and temperature. From the dependence of temperature, the activation energies are calculated as function of concentration. The dependence of concentration of the selfdiffusion coefficients is discussed using the theory of Free Volume according to FUJITA. The Free Volume of the poly(methylmethacrylate) is calculated as function of temperature.

Description / Table of Contents: In the reaction of polyoxymethylene and polydioxolane molecular segments are exchanged in the presence of BF3-etherate. The dependence of the conversion of POM on the conditions of preparation and on the solvent as well as the time-dependence and route of the exchange of oxymethylene and oxyethylene units in the compounds formed were investigated. Via soluble copolymers the reaction results in random copolymers the microstructure of which agrees with that formed from trioxane and PDO or trioxane and 1,3-dioxolane.
