The SCHIFF bases, 4-(2-hydroxy-ethylimino) pentane-2-one (abbr. HEA) und 1-[N-(2′-hydroxyethyl)iminomethyl]-2-naphthol (abbr. HNA) form solid complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Cd(II) and UO2(II). The elemental analyses, molecular weight, magnetic moment values and electronic spectral data have been used to establish the stoichiometry and structures of these compounds. Based on the studies it is concluded that Co(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes of these SCHIFF bases display tetrahedral structures whereas Pd(II) complexes exhibit a square-planar configuration. Cu(II) complexes of HEA and HNA are tetrahedral. Ni(II) complexes of HEA and HNA were found to possess octahedral and tetrahedral configurations, respectively.
