With increasing Mg and B concentrations of the system MgO—B2O3—H2O the successive formation of the hydrates MgB6O10 · nH2O with n = 7.5; 7; 6; 5 occurs at B:Mg · 6. The same hydrates exist as solid phases also in the system MgO—B2O3—H2O—MgCl2, the 7- and 6-hydrate being here, however, metastable in regard to MgB6O10 · 5 H2O.On dehydration, only the heptahydrate yields a definite lower hydrate, MgB6O10 · 5 H2O (T), which is different from the abovementioned 5-hydrate, and is re-converted to the 7-hydrate by water vapour.

Mit steigender Konzentration der Komponenten MgO und H3BO3 treten relativ unabhängig von der Temperatur bei B/Mg · 6 nacheinander die Hydrate MgB6O10 · 7,5 H2O, MgB6O10 · 7 H2O, MgB6O10 · 6 H2O und MgB6O10 · 5 H2O im System MgO—B2O3—H2O auf. Die gleichen Substanzen sind auch im System MgO—B2O3—H2O—MgCl2 Bodenkörper. Das 7- und 6-Hydrat sind hier in bezug auf MgB6O10 · 5 H2O unter der Mutterlauge metastabil. Bei der Entwässerung liefert lediglich das 7-Hydrat nach Verlust von 2 Mol H2O eine definierte Hydratstufe; diese, MgB6O10 · 5 H2O (T), wässert über die Dampfphase wieder zum 7-Hydrat an und ist vom zuerst genannten 5-Hydrat verschieden.
