Summary Several oligomeric or polymeric 1,8-disilyloctane phases, prepared by the hydrosilation of 1,7-octadiene with dichloromethylsilane or chlorodimethylsilane followed by hydrolysis and covalent-bonded onto 10 μm silica, were examined. Chromatographic properties for these phases and a RP-18 phase were compared by use of several aromatics and aliphatics. The results indicated that the effect of polymeric phases on retention and selectivity in reversed-phase liquid chromatography was more apparent than that of RP-18. In addition, a representative oligomeric 1,8-disilyloctane phase with the safrole ligand as terminal group was also tested and evaluated.
