Notes: The metabolism of cyanazine (2-chloro-4-(1-cyano-1-methyl-ethylamino)-6-ethylamino- 1,3,5-triazine) by corn (Zea mays, L.), fall panicum (Panicum dichotomiflorum Michx.), and green foxtail (Setaria viridis L.) was compared. Cyanazine metabolism by plants at the four-leaf stage was examined by thin-layer chromatography following foliar or root treatments with 14C-cyanazine. Five days following foliar 14C-cyanazine applicalion, fall panicum and green foxtail contained a larger number of water- and chloroform-soluble metabolites than corn, whereas, following root treatment, the opposite was true. Corn rapidly hydrolysed the nitrile group and hydroxylated the two-position on the triazine ring. Accumulation of the dealkylated cyanazine was evident in green foxtail, the most susceptible of the species studied. Metabolism of cyanazine supplied to the roots appeared to differ from foliar treatments in the weed species as more unchanged cyanazine was recovered. Rapid metabolism of cyanazine by corn roots provided evidence for an active cyanazine detoxication mechanism in the roots.

Notes: This article offers an overview on the ways and means of the application of Nb inquenched and tempered high-strength steel plates. Thereby, the outstanding role of Nb to control the austenite microstructure during rolling or heat treatment and to contribute to effective precipitation hardening is discussed. It is shown, that Nb is very effective to retard the transformation processes during quenching. For high-strength constructional steels with up to 1100 MPa yield strength and for wear resistant steels, the improvement in strength and toughness properties in Nb microalloyed steels as compared to Nb-free steels is pointed out. A remarkable effect is the improvement in toughness and brittle fracture resistance due to a very fine microstructure and finely dispersed Nb carbonitrides in a martensitic microstructure. Fields of application for the new Nb microalloyed high-strength structural steels are presented too

Notes: Microcontrollers are small devices commonly used for control purposes over a widerange of applications. As the control strategies and the selection of hardware differ from oneapplication to another, it is a common practice for engineers to develop the application programsbased-on the selected hardware and the control methodologies. Such development process requirestime for programming and testing, especially for large projects which need to interface and integratewith a number of different hardware and software. This paper presents an approach using theconcept of soft development modules to shorten the application program development time forcontrol systems using microcontrollers. A set of soft modules has been developed for a widely usedmicrocontroller. The testing conducted on the serial communication and fuzzy logic controlmodules successfully produced application programs within a much shorter time, and reducedhuman programming errors. The application of soft development modules will allow systemdevelopers to focus on the system design level without the need to spend large amount of time ongeneric programming details. Such an approach provides a useful programming developmentplatform for future applications using microcontrollers
