Description / Table of Contents: Crystal Structures and Phase Transformations of RbGeBr3The thermal behavior of the trimorphic RbGeBr3 has been studied by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. In the LT-Form, stable at standard temperature, an orthorhombic distorted perovskite type structure (a = 8.129(3), b = 11.249(1), c = 7.611(2) Å, space group Pn21(a) with pyramidal GeBr3 groups has been found. A rhomboedric MT-form of RbGeBr3 (a = 5.648(2) Å; α = 88.06(3)°; space group R3m; CsGeCl3 type structure) is formed by a reversible phase transformation of 1. order at 93°C. The undistorted cubic perovskite type structure (a = 5.659(2) Å; space group Pm3m) is stable above 230°C up to the melting point at 273°C.

Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis, EPR and X-Ray Structure of mer-Trichloro(2,2′-bipyridine)nitridotechnetium(VI)  -  a new Technetium(VI) Nitrido Complexmer-Trichloro(2,2′-bipyridine)nitridotechnetium(VI) has been prepared by the reaction of (NBu4)[TcNCl4] with 2,2′-bipyridine in acetonitrile, whereas the same procedure gives in methanol the technetium(V) cation [TcNCl(bipy)2]+. The EPR spectrum of [TcNCl3(bipy)] suggests a meridional coordination of the three chloro ligands.[TcNCl3(bipy)] crystallizes monoclinic in the space group P21/n; a = 8.572(1), b = 15.462(1), c = 10.110(1) Å, β = 104.21(1)°, Z = 4. The R value converged at 0.034 on the basis of 3 040 reflections. The technetium atom is distorted octahedrally coordinated with the chloro ligands meridionally cis with respect to the nitrido nitrogen. The Tc—N(1) bond length is 1.669(4) Å, and the Tc—N(3) bond (2.371(4) Å) is significantly lengthened due to the structural trans labilizing influence of the “N3-” ligand.

Description / Table of Contents: Crystal Structures and Phase Transitions of the Tetramorphic RbGeI3The thermal behaviour of RbGeI3 has been studied by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and DTA/DSC. The compound is tetramorphic. Yellow crystals of the LT-form have been obtained by crystallization from aqueous HI solutions. The orthorhombic crystal structure of LT—RbGeI3 (space group P212121; a = 10.1441(8) Å; b = 4.5460(5) Å; c = 16.8438(9) Å) shows a distorted NH4CdCl3 type structure with pyramidal GeI3 anions. Three reversible phase transformations were found by heating. In a first step at 181°C LT—RbGeI3 is transferred into the orthorhombic perovskite MT1 - RbGeI3 (red, space group Pn21a; a = 8.566(3) Å; b = 11.868(6) Å; c = 8.018(4) Å; RbGeBr3 type structure) by a reconstructive phase transition. Subsequently at 221°C the phase MT2 - RbGeBr3 with a rhombohedrically deformed perovskite type structure (black, space group R3m; a = 5.990(2) Å; α = 88,89(3)°; CsGeCl3 type structure) is formed. The high temperature modification HT—RbGeI3 shows the cubic perovskite type structure (space group Pm3m; a = 5.994(3) (Å) and is stable above 244°C until decomposition occurs at 334°C.
