Notes: Abstract Morphological and evolutional features of Ellerman bombs were studied with Hα filtergrams of two active regions very close to the solar limb. We quantitatively determined the elongated or spike-like shape of the bomb. The mean apparent length of 174 bombs is 1.1 arc sec, while 80% of 204 bombs have a diameter of less than 0.6 arc sec. The mean lifetime of 77 bombs is about 12 min at Hα - 1.2 Å. The first maximum brightness of a typical bomb is attained, on average in about 2 min. Bombs grow longer in the first brightening phase and their mean upward velocity explains the blue asymmetry of Hα emission profiles of moustaches.

Notes: Abstract In an active region, several points were observed to brighten progressively on the monochromatic image of Hα - 1.2 Å formed by the Domeless Solar Telescope installed recently at Hida Observatory. The phenomena were interpreted as small flares or subflares. The propagation velocity was measured in two cases and discussed in terms of the multiple loop activation observed in EUV radiation.

Notes: Abstract A small type ofCryptosporidium oocysts was isolated from a naturally infected cat and its biological nature was investigated. In cats experimentally inoculated withCryptosporidium oocysts, long-lasting shedding of the oocysts occurred after a prepatent period of 8–10 days, and a number of peaks of oocyst count appeared at intervals of several days to a few weeks, earlier in the infection course.Cryptosporidium infection in cats is likely to pass from an acute to a chronic stage. During the chronic stage, prednisolone injection into the cats gave rise to a recurrence of proliferation of the parasite along with a marked increase in the number of oocysts shed. None of the infected cats showed clinical symptoms. Infection experiments usingCryptosporidium oocysts were unsuccessful in several species of animals such as mice, rats, guinea pigs, dogs, suckling mice and mice previously injected with prednisolone or hydrocortisone.

Notes: Abstract Measurements of theβ-ray half-life,γ-ray and X-ray spectra andγ-ray half-lives have been done with a plastic scintillation detector, a high resolution Ge(HP) detector and a 142 cm3 Ge(Li) detector to search for an isomeric state in94Rb. Mass-separated activities of94Rb were obtained from the He-jet type on-line mass-separator at the Kyoto University reactor. No isomeric transition was found in theγ-ray and X-ray measurements with the upper limits of 3×10−4 and 8×10−5, respectively, as compared with the 836.9 keV transition. Half-lives obtained from theγ-ray decay measurements are discussed in the light of classification given byQ β -value measurements.
