Notes: Abstract Within a covariant BUU-approach we simulate heavyion collisions at various bombarding energies from 400 MeV/u to 1 GeV/u. We evaluate locally the energymomentum tensorT μv (x), and extract pressures, energydensities and temperatures. The connection of these thermodynamical quantities to experimental observables and their sensitivity to the equation of state is discussed. Furthermore, we investigate the question of local equilibration and evaluate the entropy produced in these reactions.

Notes: Summary DTPA, a derivative of EDTA, in doses of 1, 2, 4, and 8 mmoles kg−1/d −1 causes a histochemically detectable increase of glycogen in the kidneys and a decrease of glycogen in the liver of rats. Furthermore, a severe damage of the intestinal mucosa has been demonstrated; its possible relevance for the pathogenesis of the other findings is discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Two modified procedures of effect the chemiluminiscence of luminol (3-aminophtalhidrazide) are described which allow the distinction of fetal from adult blood by photoelectric recording of chemiluminiscence intensity depending on the reaction time. Solutions of both kinds of blood (hemoglobin) act as activators of the reactions on which the chemiluminiscence reaction is based. The statistical elaborattion of the results (test with 40 blood samples of either kind) showed that the method of distinguishing Hb-F from Hb-A with a luminol reagent in the presence of sodium hydroxide is of hight significance. The specific behaviour of fetal blood in the activation of the luminol reaction is obviously connected with the slow speed of fetal hemoglobin denaturation because of the influence of alkalies. These tests are in fact a new variant of observing the denaturation of hemoglobin with chemiluminiscence assuming the role of detector.

Notes: Summary The interstitial space of the myocardium is composed of nonmyocyte cells and a highly organized collagen network which serves to maintain the architecture and mechanical behavior of the myocardial walls. It is the myocardial collagen matrix that determines myocardial stiffness in the normal and structurally remodeled myocardium. In hypertensive heart disease, the heterogeneity in myocardial structure, created by the altered behavior of nonmyocyte cells, particularly cardiac fibroblasts which are responsible for collagen synthesis and degradation, explains the appearance of diastolic and/or systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle that leads to symptomatic heart failure. Several lines of evidence suggest that circulating and myocardial renin-angiotensin systems (RAS) are involved in the regulation of the structural remodeling of the nonmyocyte compartment, including the cardioprotective effects of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition that was found to prevent myocardial fibrosis in the rat with renovascular hypertension. In cultured adult rat cardiac fibroblasts angiotensin II was shown to directly stimulate collagen synthesis and to inhibit collagenase activity, which is the key enzyme for collagen degradation, that would lead to collagen accumulation. In the spontaneously hypertensive rat, an appropriate experimental model for primary hypertension in man, left ventricular hypertrophy could be regressed and abnormal myocardial diastolic stiffness due to interstitial fibrosis could be restored to normal by inhibition of the myocardial RAS. These antifibrotic or cardioreparative effects of ACE inhibition that occurred irrespective of blood pressure normalization may be valuable in reversing left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in hypertensive heart disease.
