Notes: Summary A 15-year-old girl had a lifelong history of moderate proximal muscle weakness, progressively impaired mobility of her spine and limited extension of her elbow joints, compatible with the rigid spine syndrome. Her neck muscles showed a nonspecific myopathy, her biceps muscle type I fiber predominance and type II B fiber deficiency previously demonstrated in the male rigid spine syndrome.

Notes: Summary A total of 103 patients (40 with pure sensory disturbances, 63 with sensory and motor deficits) with 'ulnar nerve lesions at the elbow were examined neurophysiologically. The measurement of motor conduction velocity across the cubital tunnel alone did not completely localize the lesion. The latency to an ulnar-innervated flexor muscle was of outstanding importance. The measurement of amplitudes was only rarely of localizing significance. The results of sensory recording proved to be important in patients with pure sensory disturbances. In cases with additional motor deficits, sensory recordings were too often abnormal in all segments of the ulnar nerve to be of substantial localizing value.

Notes: Summary An attempt was undertaken to assess the diagnostic value of sensory potentials evoked by stimulation of leg nerves. Findings in normal persons were as follows. First, stimulation of the sural nerve was superior to other methods, especially stimulation of the tibial nerve. Second, variations in latency were considerable and not attributable to age, height, or skin temperature. In many normal persons latency was not stable in either short-time or long-time trials. Amplitudes varied to such an extent that they could not help in diagnosis with the possible exception of extreme side-to-side differences. Finally, both amplitudes and latencies varied in relation to stimulus intensity, repetition rate, and filtering. Since sensory potentials from the leg nerves varied considerably, normal values must extend over a range that is wide enough to avoid mistaken diagnosis of abnormality. Hence, slight disturbances of nerve conduction such as those found in certain neuropathies, root damage and many extramedullary intraspinal space-occupying lesions could not be identified, whereas extensive demyelination in all parts of the sensory neuronal chain was readily discovered.

Notes: Abstract Deviations of nuclear magnetic moments of oddA nuclei from the Schmidt lines are explained by configuration mixing. The general results obtained are applied to several nuclei and the magnitudes of the admixture coefficients necessary to explain the deviations are estimated. The results show that the deviations can be successfully explained only for those nuclei, in which possible configuration admixtures give contributions to the magnetic moment linear in the admixture coefficient.
