Notes: Abstract With the object of designing a feasible and more radical surgical intervention for the treatment of carcinoma of the gastric cardia and improving the long term survival of these patients, a procedure was described which entails total esophagogastrectomy and resection of the distal pancreas, spleen and regional lymphnodes. The esophagus was mobilizedvia the diaphragmatic hiatus without thoracotomy. Intestinal continuity, installed isoperistaltically was restituted in the same operation using a segment of transverse and descending colon transferred to the left lateral cervial aspect by way of the posterior mediastinum. The procedure was used in four patients and mortality and serious complications were nil.

Notes: A simple transition probability formula is applied to the core hole ionization in CO, satisfactorily predicting the ratio between the intensity of the two inner-shell peaks. The formula is also applied to the full ESCA spectra of water and methane; the theoretical results agree reasonably well with the experiment.

Notes: The study of the structure of the electrode-solution interface usually involves the measurement of the differential capacity-potential characteristics of the system. In order to obtain the double-layer parameters from these data, integration and differentiation procedures are required and, for this purpose, the use of computational methods is of great value. Two computer programs have been written for the treatment of data for the adsorption of neutral molecules on electrodes. The programs use the charge density and the electrode potential as the electrical variable, respectively, and, in both cases, the differentiation procedures have been optimized by the use of an adequate numerical function. The advantages of doing a simultaneous analysis on both electrical variables are pointed out.
