Notes: Abstract The nature of the 1,3 hydrogen rearrangement of formamidine (H2N-CH=NH) and the solvent effects on that reaction are studied with ab initio molecular orbital calculations on the basis of the supermolecule model. The reaction path and the motion of the migrating hydrogen atom are traced by using the concept of the intrinsic reaction coordinate (IRC). Four types of orientation of one water molecule to formamidine at the transition state of reaction are examined and the results are discussed from the standpoint of the orbital interactions.

Notes: Summary Previous studies have shown that SMCP involves a wide range of velopharyngeal (VP) closure functions and speech problems. However, the criteria of these analyses have not always been presented clearly. In this study we analyzed the VP closure function and speech in 40 classical triad SMCP patients according to definite categories. The results showed that 16 had competent VP closure function, including 6 with complete and 10 with marginal closure function. Six had normal speech with normal voice resonance and articulation. The factors related to this variety are discussed.
