    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Parabiose ist bisher nur von einigen neotropischen Ameisenarten, bekannt. Es is eine besondere Art von Symbiose, bei der zwei oder mehrere Arten denselben Nestplatz bewohnen, zusammen sammeln, ihre Brut aber getrennt aufziehen. Die Sammelund Futterbeziehungen zweier bereits früher beschriebener Parabiose-Fälle in Brasilien, wurden neu untersucht. In beiden, Fällen istCrematogaster beteiligt (limita var.parabiotica), die entweder zusammen mitMonacis debilis, oderCamponotus femoratus nistet. Frühere Berichte, daß die Ameisen friedfertig zusammen sammeln, scheinen falsch zu sein. Die neuen Befunde zeigen, daßCrematogaster von künstlich gebotenem Zuckerwasser oder toten Insekten von den Parabiose-Partnern aggressive verdrängt wird.Monacis undCamponotus folgen den vonCrematogaster angelegten Rekrutierungsspuren zu neuen Futterplätzen. Weiterhin deuten die neuen Befunde darauf hin, daß es sich in beiden Parabiose-Beziehungen nicht, wie früher angenommen um eineCrematogaster-Art handelt, sondern um zwei verschiedene Arten.
    Notes: Summary Parabiosis is defined as a special symbiosis, so far known only from a few Neotropical ant species, in which two or more species occupy the same nest site and forage together while keeping brood separate. In Brazil the foraging and feeding interactions in two previously reported cases of parabiosis have been reexamined. The two cases both include what was considered to be a single species ofCrematogaster (limata var.parabiotica) nesting respectively withMonacis debilis andCamponotus femoratus. Previous reports that the ants forage and feed together peacefully appear to be incorrect. This paper reports thatCrematogaster is aggressively displaced at artificially provided sugar water and dead insect food sources by its associates. TheMonacis andCamponotus also follow the recruitment trails ofCrematogaster to new food sources. TheCrematogaster nesting with each symbiont have been found to be morphologically distinct and they evidently comprise distinct species. The nature of the symbiosis is reexamined in view of the aggressive competition over food sources.
