Crystal Structure, Raman and 121Sb-Mössbauer Spectrum of Antimony Fluoride Chloride (SbF1+sCl4-s)4 with s = 0.6The title compound was obtained from a 1:1 reaction mixture of SbF5 and SbCl5 by vacuum sublimation. It crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I4 with two tetrameric molecules per unit cell; the lattice constants are a = 1 294 and c = 750 pm. The crystal structure was determined with X-ray diffraction data and refined to a reliability index of R = 0.036. As in (SbFCl4)4 and (SbF2Cl3)4, the molecule has a flourine-bridged ring structure, the axial positions on one side of the ring being occupied statistically by fluorine and chlorine. Raman spectra show that the structures in the solid, in the melt and in solution differ from each other. The 121Sb-Mössbauer spectrum is discussed.
Notes:
