Description / Table of Contents:
The higher boiling products containing Si—Cl bonds of the pyrolysis of methyl chlorosilanes were reduced by means of LiAlH4 yielding silicon methylene compounds with the same number of Si—H groups, the Si—H groups, the Si—C—Si-skeleton remaining unchanged. Three classes of compounds containing two or three silicon atoms per molecule were isolated: Compounds with two silicon atoms (see "Inhaltsübersicht").Linear compounds with three silicon atoms (see "Inhaltsübersicht"). The position of the methyl groups in the compounds H3Si—CH2—SiH2—CH2—SiH(CH3)2 and H3Si—CH2—SiH2—CH2—SiH(CH3)3 has not been determined.Cyclic compounds with three silicon atoms: and the five analogous compounds in which one to five Si—H groups are replaced by Si—CH3-groups.The structural formulae are based on analysis, infrared, mass, and proton n. m. r. spectra. The structures of the isomeric compounds are discussed in the light of the proton n. m. r. data. The tendency for the formation of the six-membered ring systems (with alternating Si and C atoms) in the pyrolysis of the methyl chlorosilanes was found to increase with increasing number of methy groups in the methyl chlorosilanes used.
Notes:
