Notes: Abstract A synoptic survey of the distribution and abundance of occurrence of bloom-forming Cyanobacteria in 55 lakes in the Republic of Ireland revealed strong positive correlations with the traditional trophic gradient. Analysis of the data shows that the perceived trophic state may be correctly viewed as a function of phosphorus availability. The distribution of dominant bloom-forming Cyanobacteria is strongly related to the geology of the catchments and the incidence of significant bicarbonate buffering.

Notes: Turbulent and transitional flow heat transfer correlations for non-Newtonian fluids are presented. By means of an extension of the Reichardt-Metzner-Friend correlation to nonisothermal flow, and a new definition of Prandtl number to account for deviations from Newtonian behavior, turbulent flow data are correlated to a standard deviation of 14.8%. By means of a normalizing procedure, data for the complex case of transitional flow heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids are correlated to a standard deviation of 17.7%. At the transition region boundaries, the correlation is consistent with laminar and turbulent flow correlations. A basic similarity in the Newtonian and non-Newtonian heat transfer mechanisms is suggested.

Description / Table of Contents: A Contribution on Ternary Oxides of the AMO4-Type (A = Ti3+, Cr3+; M = Nb5+, Ta5+)CrNbO4, CrTaO4, TiNbO4, and TiTaO4 were prepared by CO2-laser technique. X-ray single crystal investigations show a random distribution of the metal ions in Rutil type structure, space group D4h14-P42/mnm. Calculations of the free energy of reaction between Ti2O3 and Nb2O5 show higher stability of TiO2 beside NbO2. In TiNbO4 both metals exhibit the oxidation state +4.
