Notes:
This second part of the article “Crystal Structure Analysis by Neutron Diffraction” deals with the diffraction of neutrons by magnetically ordered crystals. Neutron diffraction is at present the only reliable method for the determination of the magnitude, direction, and spatial distribution of magnetic moments in crystalline substances. Since the magnetic moments are essentially due to the unpaired electrons, the distribution of these electrons in the crystal can be measured in this way.
