Summary Three hundred and nineteen Rhynchosporium secalis isolates from cultivated barley were divided into five groups on the basis of their virulence on 15 differential barley varieties. Pathogenic variation was also demonstrated for isolates from different scald lesions within the same crop and amongst different spores from the same lesions.
