Notes: A flexible foil mixer is described which is gravity driven and which assists in the preparation of gas mixtures of accurately known composition. This mixer, which is simple, inexpensive, and easy to construct, does not limit the operating temperature and pressure ranges of the containment vessel.

Notes: This note presents designs for two inexpensive, magnetic circulating pumps. The first pump is designed for corrosive fluids over wide ranges of temperature, to 700 K, and pressure, to 200 MPa, and for flow rates to 6 cm3/s. The second pump is designed primarily for gases at temperatures to 500 K, pressures from 6 kPa to 20 MPa, and flow rates to 60 cm3/s. Each pump consists of a simple cylinder and piston with a central flow channel and gate operated by sample inertia.

Notes: A microwave apparatus for phase boundary determinations of corrosive fluid mixtures to 1.7 kbar and 588 K is described. The apparatus measures shifts in a static microwave energy field caused by changes in sample dielectric properties. The measured interactions involve the entire sample cell; sample volumes are small (∼25 cm3); phase transitions are measured directly. Details of the microwave apparatus and the microwave technique are discussed. Data are presented for pure fluids and for an acid-gas/heavy oil mixture that demonstrate the performance of the apparatus.

Notes: [Auszug] Greene used three methods of stimulation. Two of these needle-scratch and cold immersion produced no significant amount of spatial summation. In his third method, of thermal radiation, he used a bank of six 500.W. quartz infra-red lamps so arranged as to produce an even field of radiation over a ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE experiments of Hardy, Wolff, and Goodell1, using the radiant-heat technique of focused stimulation, and varying the size of skin surface area exposed to stimulation, showed no threshold variation for pain relative to size of skin area within a range from 0.95 to 28 cm2. Warmth thresholds were, ...

Notes: [Auszug] MIRRORS have been used in field studies of birds to elicit various behaviour-patterns, and it has also long been known that anthropoid apes take a great interest in the perception of their mirror -images. Thus Yerkes and Yerkes1 described how "in any captive chimpanzee, but especially in an ...

Notes: Abstract The ideal gas thermodynamic properties [C p 0 , S 0(T) −S 0(0) and H 0(T)-H0(0)] of methanol (CH3OH), ethanol (C2H5OH), 1-propanol (CH3CH2CH2OH), and 2-propanol [(CH3)2CHOH] over the temperature range 0 to 1500 K at 1.01325-bar (1-atm) pressure are calculated by the statistical mechanical method, employing the recent molecular and spectroscopic constants. The internal rotational contributions to the thermodynamic properties caused by the presence of -CH3, -C2H5, and -OH rotors in these molecules are evaluated using an internal rotational partition function formed by the summation of internal rotational energy levels for each rotor. In the calculation of the thermodynamic properties of ethanol (g) and 1-propanol (g), we adopted a molecular model that the vapor of each compound contains an equilibrium mixture of trans and gauche isomers. The existence of such isomers was observed spectroscopically in recent years. Our calculated results, such as C p 0 and S 0(T) ****-S 0(0), agree with available experimental values.

Notes: We have measured the density of an equimolar gas mixture of C2H6-CH3Cl between 323.15 and 473.15 K at pressures to 14.0 MPa. Interaction second virial coefficients and dew-point pressures are extracted from the measurements. Intermolecular force constants for the Lennard-Jones and Stockmayer models are determined optimally for like and unlike pair interactions. Recent methods of prediction for second virial coefficients, both pure and interaction, are tested against experiment.
