Notes: Abstract This experiment was done to test the prediction that preexposure to a drug state would increase the discriminability of that drug state when used as a cue in a discrimination task. Eight rats were pre-exposed to scopolamine for 20 days and 8 rats were given saline injections. The drug preexposed animals acquired a drug state discrimination more quickly than the controls. A difference was also found between the generalization gradients for each group with the pre-exposed group showing a steeper generalization gradient.

Notes: Abstract Eight rats trained on a fixed-interval of 2 min for food reinforcement were injected with scopolamine hydrobromide at 3.2 mg/kg on a number of sessions. On this schedule the animal normally pauses after reinforcement, then response rates increase as the interval progresses until responding reaches a high stable rate. The drug altered the normal patterning by producing a fairly stable response rate throughout each interval. An analysis of base rate change showed that the drug increased responding that was normaly slow early in each interval and decreased high rates of responding normally seen near the end of each interval. This demonstrated that scopolamine has a rate dependent effect similar to amphetamine and other drugs.

Notes: Abstract The purpose of this research was to determine if 2 drugs, scopolamine and physostigmine which have opposite effects on cholinergic transmission also produce opposite effects on fixed-interval (FI) performance. Scopolamine and a wide range of doses of physostigmine were administered singly and concurrently to a number of rats responding on a FI 2 min schedule. Scopolamine produced a disruption in FI curvature which could be antagonized by physostigmine, but physostigmine by itself produced no consistent change.

Notes: Abstract The issue has been raised previously that the use of the correlation or squared correlation as an estimate of determination depends on the type of model that is considered (Ozer, 1985). We identify three models of subjective well-being and show that the respective estimates of determination require different interpretations of the correlation statistic. The differences are illustrated using data from the Newfoundland Longitudinal Study of Aging. (NLSA).
