Summary The accuracy of astronomical positions at sea is discussed from various points of view: Single or serial observations, number and distribution of position lines, systematical and random errors, possibilities of compensation, and ascertaining of errors increasing with time. The remarks are elucidated by examples of star observations obtained during the “Meteor” cruise of 1937.

Zusammenfassung Die Genauigkeit astronomischer Standortbestimmungen auf See wird unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten besprochen: Einzelmessung oder Reihenbeobachtung, Zahl und Verteilung der Standlinien, systematische und zufällige Fehler, Möglichkeiten der Ausgleichung und Ermittlung zeitlich zunehmender Fehler. Die Ausführungen werden durch Beispiele von 1937 auf „Meteor“ gewonnenen Gestirnsbeobachtungen erläutert.
