Notes:
An attempt to explain some viscosity properties of actomyosin in terms of a reversible polymerization reaction cannot be reconciled with experimental results described in this paper. A consistent explanation of these experiments can be given if it is postulated that actomyosin, in dilute solution, is composed of flexible chains, the shape of which depends on pH and ionic strength of the solvent. The order of magnitude of the average distance between the chain ends of actomyosin molecules is estimated.
