Notes: Summary In 10 patients arterial and venous hemodynamics of the leg have been examined 69 to 175 days after fracture of the tibia using venous occlusive plethysmography. 90.1±16.7 and 120.3±16.5 days after the fracture, respectively, the bloodflow of the injured calf was increased by +4.27±1.93 (p〈0.005) (+197%) and +3.94±1.45 (p〈0.001) ml/100 ml tissue/min, respectively, whereas the bloodflow at the foot was increased by +0.54±0.68 (p〉0.05) (+76%) and by +3.39±1.24 (p〈0.001) (+424%) ml/100 ml tissue/min, respectively (as compared with the contralateral side). At the same time the venous capacity of the calf was decreased by −1.32±0.61 (p〈0.005) (−38%) and by −0.98±1.49 (p〉0.05) (−32%) ml/100 ml tissue, respectively (as compared with the contralateral side).
