Description / Table of Contents:
Summary Pyruvic acid was determined by the spectrophotometric method in the blood and serum of 10 leucaemia patients and 21 healthy controls. In leucaemia patients, the average pyruvic acid level (blood PA, e.87 mg.%; serum PA, 1.06 mg.%) was significantly higher than in the controls (blood PA, 0.56 mg.%, serum PA, 0.64 mg.%). This difference was statistically confirmed. Possible mechanisms for the production of hyperpyruvataemia in human leucaemias, involving the carbohydrate metabolism of leucaemic erythrocytes, are discussed.
Notes:
