Notes: [Auszug] We found that most of our 14 strains isolated bacteria-free thrive on acetate, and some other organic salts, as the only organic nutrients, provided the necessary chemical elements are supplied. They utilize inorganic nitrogen and do not require growth substances. This appears to be the simplest ...

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Chlamydomonas pallens n. sp. is characterised by a low degree of chlorophyll content. It thrives therefore only when photosynthesis is supplemented by acetate. Since the species also requires B12 (cobalamine) it appears to be suitable for the assay of this vitamin.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A species of Lobomonas is described which produces its characteristic states only in soil-water-cultures, while grown axenically in monophasic solution it cannot be differentiated from Chlamydomonas. The new organism is further, compared with related species, characterised by its low content of chlorophyll which does not suffice for living phototrophically. It needs an additional substrate, acetate only being suitable, and it requires B12.
