Notes: [Auszug] To maintain a net flow of charge along the direction of the electric field, it is usually necessary for individual molecules, after they have transferred a proton, to undergo rotation so as to be suitably disposed for the next proton to be accepted. Fig. 1, which is based on a notion first ...

Notes: Abstract A brief survey, using transmission electron microscopy, of the crystallite structure of magnetic electroless cobalt films deposited from an alkaline hypophosphite bath on to glass substrates has been undertaken. With increasing pH values from 7.4 to 8.5, the overall continuity of the films improved for a given thickness, although the crystallites themselves became individually isolated. This isolation is responsible for the increase in coercivity observed over the same pH range. Micrographs of various specimens are included to illustrate the features discussed.

Notes: Abstract The perturbation treatment of proton-proton coupling developed in earlier papers, has been extended to allow for electron delocalization through intervening C-C and C-H bonds. The meta-coupling constant in benzene obtained from this perturbation treatment is in reasonable agreement with that obtained by a full MO calculation. The para coupling constant is not in good agreement suggesting that para-coupling arises from electron spin polarization in more than one intervening bond.

Notes: Synopsis A simple method which does not involve chromatography is described for the purification of neotetrazolium chloride (NT). Commercial samples of NT were shown to contain variable amounts of a major monotetrazolium salt contaminant, which was isolated and identified as 2-(4-biphenyl-)-3,5-diphenyltetrazolium chloride (BDTC). A qualitative method for checking the purity of NT and BDTC by thin-layer chromatography is described; with this technique the presence of traces of other tetrazolium salt contaminants was detected. The preparation of pure samples of formazan corresponding to NT and BDTC is described; molar extinction coefficients are given with sufficient other information to enable estimation of the amounts of NT and BDTC in mixtures of the two to be made.

Notes: Abstract Numerical computations of the free recovery of arc columns in air and nitrogen are presented. In addition to thermal conduction radiation losses are taken into account and the influence of a temperature dependent thermal diffusivity is considered. At short times after interruption a high thermal diffusivity in the core accelerates the conductance decay while at later times the rate of recovery is reduced due to a small diffusivity in the outer regions of the column. For high current arcs radiation is an important loss mechanism immediately after an interruption.
