    Notes: Abstract The mobility of impurities in He3 is calculated using Kubo's formula and assuming a quasi-particle-like behaviour of the impurities. This is reasonable in the low temperature limit. If one has to deal with charged particles having a large cross-section for the scattering of He3 quasi-particles on account of their large effective radii, this limit is as low as presumably 0.01 °K. For uncharged particles the validity of the theory is not confined to such a small region of the temperature. The mobility behaves as 1/T 2 and its dependence upon the frequency is almost that of a classical sphere experiencing a force of friction proportional to its velocity. The parameters occuring in the formula for the mobility (the effective mass and the scattering cross-section between He3 and the impurities) may in principle be determined by independent experiments.

    Notes: Abstract A phase-free accelerating stage for charged particles has been constructed which makes use of electric ac-fields in a triangular shaped electrode system combined with ac-deflecting devices in the MHz-range. An elaborate calculation of the energy gain based on a time dependent Hamiltonian and a simplified calculation assuming perfect shielding within the electrodes were performed. The theoretical results are compared with measurements at a frequency of 13.55 MHz and at peak electrode voltages of 3 kV and 0.5 kV. The maximum energy gain of electrons with an incident energy of 20 keV was measured to be 140 eV at the 3 kV peak voltage. Construction and properties of the retarding-field energy analyzer and of the resonant circuits are given. It is shown that rf-driven magnetic deflecting coils diminish the energy gain due to induced electric fields. Rf-electric capacitor fields seem to be superior to the rf-magnetic fields because they reduce the energy gain very little and furthermore offer a simultaneous phase-free particle acceleration in opposite directions. The possible applications of such a phase-free accelerating stage for heating up a plasma and for producing an intense ring of relativistic electrons are discussed.

    Notes: The superconducting transition of a thin, current-carrying wire at fixed temperature below T C has been studied on the basis of the Ginzburg-Landau theory. In the case of solutions uniform in space and in the case of solutions with a longitudinal structure a description of the development in time is given. Taking into account fluctuations of the complex order parameter, in the simplest case of uniformity in space we have found solutions periodic in time at overcricical currents. In this case the order parameter, the supercurrent, and the electric field are periodic in time with a well-defined frequency spectrum over a low-level noise spectrum. The electrical resistance is thereby reduced in this region.
