    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es werden 4 klinisch als chronisch-perniziöse MS verlaufende Fälle dargestellt, die pathologisch-anatomisch eine 12–25 Segmente umfassende kontinuierliche Entmarkung des Rückenmarks und Entmarkungen auch des Chiasma opticum zeigen. Es wird das Vorliegen einer abortiven chronischen Verlaufsform des Neuromyelitis optica-Syndroms bei MS diskutiert. Die Prozeßbeteiligung des Großhirns läßt darüber hinaus Beziehungen auch zur Schilderschen diffusen Sklerose vermuten.
    Notes: Summary Four cases with the clinical diagnosis of chronic MS are presented, which, histologically, show large solitary demyelinated and gliotic areas involving almost the entire spinal cord over 12–25 segments as well as the optic chiasm. The abortive form of the neuromyelitis optica syndrome in MS is discussed. The additional involvement of the cerebral hemispheres suggests that the clinical and histological picture described is related to Schilder's disease.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Anhand katamnestischer Untersuchungen an 6 Überlebenden einer akuten Arsen-Wasserstoff-Intoxikation konnten psychopathologische und neurologische Folgeschäden nachgewiesen werden. Die nach einer beschwerdefreien Latenz von 1 bis 6 und mehr Monaten nach Abklingen der akuten Symptomatik auftretenden reversiblen Spätfolgen waren durch eine toxische Polyneuropathie vom asymmetrisch-proximalen und symmetrisch-distalen Manifestationstyp — jeweils ohne Hirnnervenbeteiligung — und ein leichtes hirnorganisches Psychosyndrom gekennzeichnet. Das Ausmaß der Folgesymptomatik korrelierte mit der Schwere der akuten Intoxikation. Verlauf und Manifestation der Polyneuropathie zeigten sich mit entsprechenden Befunden nach Arsenvergiftung identisch. Es ist zu vermuten, daß es sich hierbei um Folgen einer Arseneinwirkung handelt. Die psychopathologische Symptomatik entspricht einem sog. Vergiftungsspätfolgesyndrom und ist insofern noxenunspezifisch.
    Notes: Summary Follow-up study of 6 workers, who after survival of an acute arsine poisoning, developed psychopathologic and neurologic abnormalities. The symptoms appeared after a latency of 1 to 6 months indicating a toxic polyneuropathy and a mild psycho-organic syndrome. The severity of these reversible manifestations was directly related to the period of time of exposure to arsine. The clinical picture of arsine polyneuropathy was similar to that observed in arsenic poisoning, suggesting that arsine polyneuropathy is due to the action of arsenic. The psychopathologic syndrome corresponds to the so-called „Vergiftungsspätfolgesyndrom“ and therefore does not appear to be a specific sequel of arsine poisoning.

    Notes: Abstract A study of planktonic primary productivity and community structure was carried out on three lakes of varying morphometric and chemical features, but which were within a single watershed in Central Florida. Primary productivity in these lakes was evaluated by means of in situ light and dark bottle determinations as well as by calculations based upon chlorophyll and light data. Lake Mize, a deep sinkhole lake containing highly colored waters of low pH, proved to be a very unproductive lake, while Biven's Arm, a shallow-basin lake with alkaline waters and Newnan's lake, a shallow-basin like with highly colored waters both showed relatively high productivities. Phytoplankton components of the two productive lakes were quite similar to one another in being composed of bloom-forming blue-green and green algae, while the predominant forms in Lake Mize were chrysophytes, dinoflagellates and a diatom. Zooplanktonic forms were more uniform among the lakes than were the phytoplankton, though population levels reflected relative productivities among the lakes. Rotifers predominated in the Lake Mize plankton while cladocerans were relatively inabundant. This was opposite to the condition in Biven's Arm and Newnan's Lake. It is suggested that the constant presence of larval Chaoborus in the water column in Lake Mize may be partially responsible for the paucity of cladocera.
