Summary The linear (acoustic) solution of the problem of diffraction and reflexion of a weak plane shock wave incident on a wedge is not uniformly valid. A singularity appears at the intersection-points of the plane fronts of the incident and reflected shocks with the cylindrical wave front of the wedge head. In addition there is no information about the steepening of the cylindrical wave front to a shock wave. Starting with the acoustic solution a uniformly valid solution is obtained by means of an analytical method of characteristics of first order. The determination of position and strength of the different shock sections (plane, slightly curved, circular) can be reduced approximately to two-dimensional problems. These problems arise in planes normal to the respective wave front in acoustic approximation.

Zusammenfassung Die akustische Lösung für das Problem der Beugung und Reflexion einer schwachen ebenen Stoßfront an einem Keil ist nicht einheitlich gültig. Sie ist unstetig an den Stellen, an denen die ebenen Fronten des einfallenden und reflektierten Stoßes auf der kreiszylinderförmigen Störfront der Keilkante enden. Das Aufsteilen der Kantenstörfront zu einem Stoß wird nicht erfaßt. Ausgehend von der akustischen Lösung wird durch Anwendung eines analytischen Charakteristikenverfahrens erster Ordnung eine gleichmäßig gültige Lösung erhalten. Die Bestimmung von Lage und Stärke der einzelnen Stoßabschnitte (ebene, schwach gekrümmte, zylinderförmige Stoßfront) kann näherungsweise auf zweidimensionale Probleme in Normalebenen zu der jeweils betrachteten Wellenfront in akustischer Näherung zurückgeführt werden.
