Zusammenfassung Es wird über 27 Eingriffe an den Wirbelkörpern der Brustwirbelsäule berichtet. Die Indikationen zu diesen Eingriffen bildeten stark progrediente infantile und juvenile Skoliosen, Korrekturen starker Kyphosen bei cong. Mißbildungen, Frakturen, Morbus Scheuermann und nach Laminektomie, ferner tuberkulöse Spondylitiden und Tumoren. Die beiden obersten Brustwirbelkörper lassen sich vom Zugang nach Southwick und Robinson aus, die beiden untersten Wirbelkörper der BWS von einem extraperitonealen-subdiaphragmalen Zugang aus erreichen. Als Zugang zu den andern Wirbelkörpern wurde die Thorakotomie gewählt. Sind die personellen und materiellen Voraussetzungen erfüllt, so sind auch Eingriffe an den Wirbelkörpern der Brustwirbelsäule als weitgehend sicher zu bezeichnen und in vielen Fällen die einzige Möglichkeit, ein befriedigendes oder gutes Resultat einer Wirbelsäulenaffektion zu erreichen. Trotzdem ist die Indikation natürlich streng zu stellen. Schwere Komplikationen (Todesfälle, Paraplegie usw.) waren in keinem Fall zu beobachten.

Summary 27 operations on the vertebral bodies of the thoracic spine are reported. Indications for operation included markedly progressive infantile and juvenile scoliosis, correction of severe kyphoses in congenital malformation, fractures, Scheuermann's disease and post-laminectomy as well as tuberculous spondylitis and tumors. The two uppermost thoracic vertebrae can be reached by the method of Southwick and Robinson, the two lowest vertebrae from an extraperitoreal-subdiaphragm approach. Thoracotomy was chosen for the remaining thoracic vertebrae. If the staff and material are available, operations on the thoracic vertebrae can be regarded as relatively safe and, in many cases, are the only possibility for obtaining a satisfactory or good result. In spite of this, strict indications must be observed. Severe complications (death, paraplegia etc.) did not occur in any of the patients.
