    Notizen: Abstract The ternary system nickel-copper-boron was established at 700°C by means of X-ray diffraction and metallographic examinations. Confirming the well known binary nickel borides no ternary boride was found. The solubility of boron in the nickel-copper solid solution is very small and has its maximum of about 0.3 at% in the binary system copper-boron. Differential-thermoanalysis shows a quasibinary eutectic between Ni3B and copper solid solution.

    Notizen: Abstract Acute haemorrhagic lesions in the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum (‘stress ulcers’) occur relatively often under clinical conditions and are always dangerous to the patient (lethality rate about 70%). Since conservative and surgical treatment are without significant success up to now, prevention by adaptation to stressors or by administration of drugs seems mandatory. An improved technique for producing acute gastric lesions in rats by immobilization and a new method for assessing this disease in the animals is presented in this communication. High precision is obtained within a single experimental series especially from day to day. Since histamine was suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of stress ulcer disease, (+)-catechin, a rather specific inhibitor of specific histidine decarboxylase from rat stomach, was tested in immobilized rats. It prevented the formation of acute gastric lesions by 80% in seven series of experiments lasting for half a year. Since the drug has low toxicity in man, it is recommended for clinical trials.

    Notizen: Abstract Several preparations of Cremophor El®, several of other non-ionic detergents and several components of Cremophor El were tested for their histamine-releasing capacity in dogs. Lutensol AP 10 and a derivative of 1,2-propylenglycol were ineffective, but showed excellent properties as detergents. Thus the histamine-releasing capacity was not necessarily combined with the tenside effect of the surfactants. Oleic acid found in Tween 80 as well as in Cremophor El seems to be the most effective constituent, but the alcohol seems also to be important for the histamine-releasing capacity. The development of a non-toxic solubilizer for lipophilic drugs seems of considerable clinical interest.

    Notizen: Summary Using the direct cytotoxicity test described by Takasugi and Klein (1970), 59 patients suffering from localized malignant skin melanoma (stages I and II) were investigated for cell-mediated immunity. On an average, peripheral lymphocytes obtained preoperatively from 52 patients showed a higher cytotoxicity against one of two established melanoma cell lines (RPMI 7931) as compared to lymphocytes from control persons. No significant differences were found between lymphocytotoxicity of the patients and the controls against the control cell lines. In a prospective study, 17 patients were investigated. The results obtained so far suggest a correlation between a positive reaction postoperatively and recurrence of melanoma. It is clear that the control group exerted a certain degree of “nonspecific” cytotoxicity depending on the target cell used (established cell lines versus short-term cultures) and the lymphocyte/target cell ratio. Furthermore, there was a day-to-day variation in the nonspecific cytotoxicity exerted by lymphocytes derived from the same control person. It is concluded that considerable refinements have to be made before the microcytotoxicity assay becomes of clinical use in the evaluation of the postoperative status and course in melanoma patients.     Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: A Study of Wear Resistant Nickel-Boron-Silicon Coating AlloysNickel-Boron-Silicon alloy powders are used for wear and corrosion resistant coatings. Immediately after powder deposit on carbon or stainless steels these coatings should possess their final qualities. But there is a strong dependance of the properties on the thermodynamic equilibrium and on the volumetric relation of the Nickel solid solution to the enclosed hard phases. Therefore it is necessary to know the formation of the phases according to the equilibrium temperature and the fluid miscibility with the base material during coating process.
    Notizen: Nickel-Bor-Silizium-Legierungspulver werden als Oberflächenbeschichtungsmaterialien zum Verschleiß- und Korrosionsschutz verarbeitet. Sie sollen nach dem Aufbringen auf Eisenbasiswerkstoffe bereits ihre Gebrauchseigenschaften besitzen, die jedoch stark vom thermodynamischen Gleichgewichtszustand und damit von dem volumenmäßigen Verhältnis der Nickelmatrix zu den eingelagerten Hart-phasen bestimmt werden. Zur Abschätzung der Gebrauchseigenschaften ist es deshalb nötig, die Phasenverhältnisse in Abhängigkeit der Gleichgewichtstemperatur und der Aufmischung mit dem jeweiligen Grundwerkstoff zu kennen.
