Notes: Abstract With the algorithm described, it is possible to decompose a directed graph without loops and cycles into subgraphs which have one and only one source, one and only one sink and no other connections to the complement of the subgraph. The algorithm delivers all subgraphs with this property and the hierarchical structure of these subgraphs. Examples and some experiences on computing time are given.

Notes: Abstract Male black-tailed deer were exposed to conspecific urine samples monthly for one year. The urine samples tested were from adult male, nonestrous female, estrous female, male fawn, and female fawn. The urine was offered with and without a wire screen cover; Flehmen occurred only when direct mouth and/or tongue contact with the urine was possible. The frequency of Flehmen varied seasonally, and urine from adults released more Flehmen than urine from fawns. But there was no difference in Flehmen frequency in response to urine from adult males or estrous or nonestrous females, when presented out of context, although in a natural situation males respond more to urinating females than males.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary We conducted follow-up examinations on 37 former orthodontic patients on whom 92 second molars had been removed at the end of treatment — mainly in order to prevent recrowding of the incisors. The average interval between these molarextractions and the re-examination was 6 years. The vertical and sagittal changes of the third molars were registered until their eruption and the extent of their rotation was noted. The clinical long-term results were more favourable than had been expected. There was a strong and longlasting reduction in the mesial drift of the molars caused by the second molarextractions. This reduction is attributed to the stress-breaking effect of the molar-removal from the center of the molar block. Beside the reduction in crowding there was a favourable effect on the overbite. In certain cases therefore second molarextraction is recommended as an alternative to premolar or third molar extraction.
M3-Extraktion empfohlen.

Notes: Abstract Flehmen is a stereotyped response of ungulates and other mammals to urine. In black-tailed deer, Flehmen occurs typically in males (rarely in females), and its frequency shows an annual cycle. Flehmen in response to female urine was most frequent in November, and to male urine in January. The response minimum to both types of urine occurred in May. Fifty-five to 100% of initial responses to female urine resulted in Flehmen. The deer responded more often to female urine, and the difference between the responses to female and male urine increased from May to November. A male's own urine released Flehmen more often than did urine of other males. The response intensity varied with the spatial orientation of the male to the urinating female, and responses were usually limited to distances of 15 m or less.

Notes: Abstract Beaver colonies with close neighbors constructed more “scent mounds” than did isolated colonies, and the number of scent mounds at each active lodge is correlated with the distance to the nearest occupied lodge. The scent mounds were typically located at trails, also on lodges and dams. The beaver rebuilt experimentally removed scent mounds. Experimentally scent-marked unoccupied lodges were less often visited or inhabited than unscented control lodges. Resident beaver responded to artificial scent marks near their lodges with aggressive behavior and increased activity. We conclude that scent mounds serve in delineating family territories and are effective in deterring transient beaver from utilizing existing but uninhabited lodges.
