Notes:
Experimental work is presented showing the effect of reactor agitation on final resin properties during vinyl chloride suspension polymerization. Experiments were carried out in a large pilot plant facility using a stirred batch reactor of over 5 cubic meters equipped with a turbine impeller and internal baffles. The effects of important agitation parameters such as impeller diameter, width, and speed are correlated with resin particle size distribution using the Weber number. The relationship of resin internal morphology with agitation is also presented using resin plasticizer absorption time and bulk density.
