Notes: The integral representation of the electromagnetic two-form, defined on Minkowski space-time, is studied from a new point of view. The aim of the paper is to obtain an invariant criteria in order to define the radiative field. This criteria generalizes the well-known structureless charge case. We begin with the curvature two-form, because its field equations incorporate the motion of the sources. The gauge theory methods (connection one-forms) are not suited because their field equations do not incorporate the motion of the sources. We obtain an integral solution of the Maxwell equations in the case of a flow of charges in irrotational motion. This solution induces us to propose a new method of solving the problem of the nature of the retarded radiative field. This method is based on a projection tensor operator which, being local, is suited to being implemented on general relativity. We propose the field equations for the pair {electromagnetic field, projection tensor}. These field equations are an algebraic differential first-order system of one-forms, which verifies automatically the integrability conditions.

Notes: The extension of the Barker–Henderson (BH) theory to diatomic potentials is examined by comparison of the predicted thermodynamic properties with "exact'' MC results. Two choices of the potential separation have been considered; corresponding to the BH scheme and that of Weeks–Chandler–Andersen (WCA). Attention has been paid to the effect of the usual approximations to the exact properties of the hard reference system (equation of state and pair correlation functions) and to the convergence rate of the expansion. Conclusions can also be drawn for the extension of the WCA-blip function theory to these systems. It is shown that the behavior of the perturbation expansions exhibits the same features observed in atomic fluids. Nevertheless, the presence of the molecular anisotropy leads to a rather different assessment of the relative usefulness of each theory. Incidentally, small inaccuracies of the well-known Boublik and Nezbeda equation for the compressibility factor of dumbbells have been discovered at very high densities (outside the range previously reported).

Notes: Abstract Congenital adenomatoid malformation (CAM) of the lung was diagnosed at 30 weeks gestation. The mother presented with preterm labor and polyhydramnios. A complex cystic mass was seen in the right lung of the fetus. Additional radiographic and sonographic investigations prior to delivery allowed differentiation of this rare lesion from other cystic thoracic pathology of the fetal period. Careful hospital obstetric management of the mother and fetus for over 3 weeks allowed the delivery of an infant with adequate pulmonary maturity to permit stabilization and surgery on the baby in the first days of life.

Notes: [Auszug] We have shown previously that cells of the 0-2A lineage in suspensions and cultures of the developing optic nerve can be identified by means of three antibodies: anti-galactocerebroside (GC), which reacts specifically with the oligodendrocytes5, antiglial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)6, which ...

Notes: Summary In order to assess the contribution of transcellular water flow to isosmotic fluid transport acrossNecturus gallbladder epithelium, we have measured the water permeability of the epithelial cell membranes using a nuclear magnetic resonance method. Spin-lattice (T 1) relaxation of water protons in samples of gallbladder tissue where the extracellular fluid contained 10 to 20mm Mn2+ showed two exponential components. The fraction of the total water population responsible for the slower of the two was 24±2%. Both the size of the slow component, and the fact that it disappeared when the epithelial layer was removed from the tissue, suggest that it was due to water efflux from the epithelial cells. The rate constant of efflux was estimated to be 15.6±1.0 sec1 which would be consistent with a diffusive membrane water permeabilityP d of 1.6×103 cm sec1 and an osmotic permeabilityP os of between 0.3×104 and 1.4×104 cm sec1 osmolar1. Using these data and a modified version of the standing-gradient model, we have reassessed the adequacy of a fluid transport theory based purely on transcellular osmotic water flow. We find that the model accounts satisfactorily for near-isosmotic fluid transport by the unilateral gallbladder preparation, but a substantial serosal diffusion barrier has to be included in order to account for the transport of fluid against opposing osmotic gradients.

Notes: Abstract A ∼7 hour observation of the central part of the Coma Cluster of galaxies has been performed with the EXOSAT LE telescopes and CMA detectors. Five serendipitous sources are detected within the inner 35 arcmin radius of the field. Optical spectroscopy demonstrates that at least three of these are background AGN not associated with the cluster. At the sensitivity level of the EXOSAT exposure, we would have expected to see only 0.01 background sources based on the Einstein Medium Sensitivity Survey. The EXOSAT and Einstein results may be reconciled if these AGN have a much softer average X-ray spectrum than previously assumed.

Notes: Abstract The preparation and physicochemical characterization (specific surface area, X-ray diffraction, electronic spectra, and magnetic properties) of oxide Mn-TiO2 and Co-TiO2 (1–5% atomic ratio Mn/Ti or Co/Ti) systems are described. The samples were obtained from commercial TiO2 and soluble manganese and cobalt salts, after treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere at 770 K. While the Mn-TiO2 samples show a good dispersion of the supported phase irrespective of the manganese content, increasing amounts of cobalt content lead to formation of Co3O4.
