Notes: Abstract We present 190 astrometric positions of comet Halley and 46 positions of comet Giacobini-Zinner obtained at Fabra Observatory during the 1985/1986 campaign by the astrometric network of the International Halley Watch.

Notes: Abstract We present an original scoring method for assessing skeletal maturity in the first 2 years of life. We propose a lateral radiograph of the ankle and foot. Five different bony centers were examined: the calcaneus, the cuboid, the third cuneiform, the distal tibial epiphysis and the distal fibular epiphysis. The maturity scores given to the different stages of each bony center were calculated in proportion to the coefficients of regression between the skeletal maturity and a factor that expresses the influence of weight and head circumference as high multiple correlation coefficients of skeletal maturity with the factor were obtained (0.920 for boys and 0.929 for girls). Our method was standardized in a children population of less than two years of life in Biscaye, where 1,164 radiographs were taken. The distribution of scores in this study shows the discriminative ability of our method and its validity as an adequate method for skeletal maturity assessment in children less than 2 years of age.

Notes: Summary Unlike conventional antidepressants, rolipram (a new approach in the treatment of depression) stimulates both the presynaptic and the postsynaptic component of monoaminergic transmission. Several double blind trials are under way to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of this compound. The present study was a randomized, 4-week interindividual double blind double-dummy comparison with desipramine in inpatients with major (DSM-III) and/or endogenous (ICD-9) depressions. After a minimum washout period of three days the patients received either 0.50 mg rolipram or 25 mg desipramine orally t.i.d. for the first three days, then 0.75 mg rolipram or 50 mg desipramine t.i.d. until day 28. Rating tests were based principally on the AMDP-system and the HAMD scale. The study showed no differences between the two drugs as regards the efficacy, but a definite trend in favour of rolipram as regards the side effects and, in particular, anticholinergic effects.

Notes: Summary Phosphorylation of microtubule protein was tested during differentiation in neuroblastoma cells. Two microtubule proteins were modified, β-tubulin and MAP-1 B. In the first case less than one mol of phosphate was incorporated per mol of protein, whereas several residues were phosphorylated in MAP-1 B. The localization of the phosphorylated residue of β-tubulin indicated that it is present in an isoform, at its carboxy-terminal region, and probably correspond to the serine 444. When comparing thein vivo phosphorylation of tubulin with that produced by casein kinase IIin vitro, a similar pattern was obtained. A similar result was found upon the comparison of the phosphorylation pattern of MAP-1 B after phosphorylationin vivo andin vitro using casein kinase II. These results suggest a role for casein kinase II in the phosphorylation of microtubule proteins in neuroblastoma cells. A result similar to that found for neuroblastoma cells was found after injection of [32P]phosphate into the brain of seven-day-old rats; however, a more complex pattern was found for the phosphorylationin vivo in adult rats.

Notes: Summary A rapid gas chromatographic method for the analysis of individual free fatty acids (FFA) in cheese has been developed. Lipds were extract from a cheese paste acidified with diethyl ether and tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAM) was used for converting the FFA to TMA-soaps, which are transformed to methyl esters in the chromatographic injector. The effect of lactic acid was determined. The reproducibility of the method was studied and the coefficient of variation for the total FFA was found to be 2.2%. Recovery of individual FFA was in the range 87 to 106%.
