Abstract A general order kinetics approach has been used to study the space-charge relaxation in highdensity polyethylene (HD-PE). The analysis of the activation energy,E, and the kinetics order,q, allows the determination of two relaxation regions above the glass transition temperature; one between −24 and 16° C, and a second above 16° C. Both relaxations are discussed on the basis of the structural characteristics of polyethylene.
