Notes: We report the two-photon photoelectric sensitivities of a granular silver film and a silver covered diffraction grating at the photon energy (h-dash-bar)ω=3.5 eV of a frequency-tripled Nd:YAG laser when surface plasmons are excited. Values higher than 3×10−15 A cm2 W−2 have been obtained with both structures which correspond to a one-photon quantum yield of 1×10−5 under a 1-GW-cm−2 incident laser power density. These photoemitters could be used as high current density electron sources by illuminating them with picosecond or subpicosecond lasers in the 2–4-eV spectral range.

Notes: We propose to use silver-covered optical diffraction gratings as possible laser-driven electron sources. Such structures allow surface plasma waves excitation and consequently an enhancement of the photoemission sensitivity. The latter can easily be tuned with the wavelength of the excitation laser by varying the incidence angle. Using a commercial diffraction grating, we obtained after a cesium activation, a quantum yield higher than 1% at the wavelength of a frequency tripled YAG laser (λ=355 nm) for the incidence angle corresponding to the plasmon resonance.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we consider idempotent algebras whosep n -sequences (the sequences of the numbersp n of essentiallyn-ary polynomials) have a subexponential rate of growth. Studying the symmetry groups of polynomials we establish some consequences of this property. In particular, a new characterization of semilattices is obtained, and all idempotent commutative algebras with log-linear free spectra are described.

Notes: Abstract A PZT ceramic modified by 0.4Pb-(1−x)(B2O3)−x(GeO2) glass, and glass-ceramics modified by V2O5, have been obtained. The influence of the chemical composition of the glasses on the mechanical strength and dielectric parameters of these ceramics is investigated. The mechanical and electrical parameters of PZT ceramics are considerably improved by small additions of glass (⩽ 1 mass %) of suitable composition. During heat treatment, the mobility of the domain walls may be changed as a result of the interaction of smelt glass with the surface layer of the crystallites (resulting from a change of V Pb t" vacancy concentration in grains and decreased mechanical tension on the grain boundaries). By introducing the glass, we can decrease the porosity of the ceramics and thus decrease the attenuation of surface acoustic waves in piezoelectric filters. The origin of the liquid phase during sintering of the PZT glass-ceramics prevents PbO evaporation. This determines the preservation of the solution's stoichiometry. The glass addition leads to a decrease in the sintering temperature of PZT, which simplifies the technological process. The glass ceramics are obtained by common ceramic technology which is used for commercial piezoceramic production. The main technological problem is choosing the chemical composition and concentration of the glass and thermal process parameters.
