    Notes: Nb/Al-AlOx/Nb superconducting tunnel junctions for the application of radiation detectors were fabricated using dc magnetron sputtering. The surface morphology of polycrystalline Nb films was observed using an atomic force microscope. Junctions with various Al film thicknesses were fabricated. The leakage current of the junctions is found to decrease as the Al thickness increases, indicating an improvement of the Al film coverage over the Nb surface. X rays were detected with the junctions prepared and the low leakage property across the junction makes possible x-ray detection with various size junctions up to 200×200 μm2.

    Notes: Summary In a case of cavernous angioma, a remote gyrus, which was found to contain an epileptogenic focus by intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG), was resected simultaneously with lesionectomy. The patient was a 27-year-old male who was referred to our hospital because of frequent systemic tonic-clonic convulsions. ECoG revealed an epileptogenic focus not only in the cortex around the angioma-affected tissue of the left frontal lobe but also in an in addition to lesionectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful. Now (two years after surgery), the patient is seizure-free In the surgical treatment of convulsions-accompanied by cavernous angioma, it is essential not only to detect epileptogenic foci by intraoperative ECoG but also to remove these foci together with the angioma.

    Notes: Abstract An immunohistochemical study using the mirror-image technique was performed in order to establish whether amyloid P component is involved in the mechanism of deposition of amyloid fibrils in senile plaques (SPs) in Alzheimer-type dementia (ATD). Ninety percent of β/A4 protein-immunoreactive SPs were also stained by the anti-amyloid P component immunchistochemistry, and this applied to all of the diffuse, primitive and classical types of β/A4 deposits. These findings may suggest an involvement of amyloid P component in the formation of amyloid fibrils in senile plaques in ATD brains.

    Notes: Summary Uptake of catechol isoquinolines to dopamine cells was studied using human dopaminergic neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Only (R)-1,2-methyl-6,7-dihydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline [(R)-1,2-DiMeDHTIQ] was transported by dopamine uptake system, while (S)-1,2-DiMeDHTIQ, (R)- and (S)-1-methyl-6,7-dihydroxy-tetrahydroisoquinoline, and 1,2-dimethyl-6,7-dihydroxyisoquinolinum ion were not. Kinetical study showed that the uptake of (R)-1,2-DiMeDHTIQ followed the Michaelis-Menten equation, and the values of the Michaelis constant and the maximal velocity were obtained to be 102.6 ± 36.9 μM and 66.0 ± 2.8 pmol/min/mg protein. Dopamine was found to inhibit (R-1-DiMeDHTIQ uptake competitively. These results suggest that the selective uptake by dopamine transporter may account for the specific neurotoxicity of (R)-1,2-DiMeDHTIQ to dopamine neurons.
