Notes: Worldwide, at least two million people die annually from tuberculosis (TB), with projections of 36 million more global deaths between the years 2003 and 2020. To help nursing faculty strengthen TB curricula and standardize TB content in national and international undergraduate nursing programs, the Nurse Discipline Group of the National Tuberculosis Curriculum Consortium (NTCC) has developed comprehensive TB core competencies and specific student objectives for the classroom setting. These core competencies address the knowledge, ability, and/or skills required for an undergraduate nursing student to provide qualified holistic care for patients, families, and communities impacted by TB. The NTCC is comprised of a team of multidisciplinary health care educators in the United States, with the primary mission to instill knowledge, skills, and appropriate attitudes in the management of active and latent TB among undergraduate health care students.

Notes: Using primers annealing to S locus sequences the cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) method was applied to develop a marker and to characterize different alleles at the self-incompatibility locus in Brassica napus. A segregating F2 population from a cross of a self-incompatible (SI) and a self-compatible parent, as well as seven SI lines representing four different S alleles were used. Several primers specific to the S locus in B. oleracea and B. campestris, chosen from the literature, allow polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of genomic DNA. However, only one primer pair amplified a single specific and reproducible PCR fragment of the expected length in B. napus. Digestion with restriction endonucleases revealed polymorphisms for two CAPS markers absolutely linked to the S locus. Using the codominant marker efMboI it was possible to discriminate all three F2 genotypes. With this marker and an additional marker using another primer pair it was possible to distinguish between three of the four different S alleles and five of the seven SI lines, respectively.

Notes: The accuracy of the new SNAP index with the Bispectral index (BIS) to distinguish different states of propofol/remifentanil anaesthesia was compared in 19 female patients who were undergoing minor gynaecological surgery. Comparisons of the SNAP index, BIS, spectral edge frequency, mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were performed. The ability of all parameters to distinguish between the steps of anaesthesia –awake vs. loss of response, awake vs. anaesthesia, anaesthesia vs. first reaction and anaesthesia vs. extubation – were analysed with the prediction probability. The prediction probability to differentiate between two interesting nuances of anaesthetic states –loss of response vs. first reaction – was calculated. Only the BIS showed no overlap between the investigated steps of anaesthesia. Both the SNAP index and BIS failed to differentiate the nuances of anaesthesia. The SNAP index and BIS were superior to mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate and spectral edge frequency in distinguishing between different steps of anaesthesia with propofol and remifentanil and provided useful additional information.

Notes: With scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), the intramolecularconformational and intermolecular ordering aspects have been investigated of avariety of organic molecules physisorbed at the liquid-solid interface. By balancingthe interplay between intramolecular and intermolecular interactions (hydrogenbonding), leading to control of the molecular conformation, foldamers were createdwhich order into well-defined two-dimensional crystals. The nature of the hydrogenbonding groups in conjugated oligomers leads to the formation of infinite stacks andcyclic multimers, expressing the chiral nature of the molecules
