Notes: [Auszug] We have deduced the entire 1,370-amino-acid sequence of the human insulin receptor precursor from a single complementary DNA clone. The precursor starts with a 27-amino-acid signal sequence, followed by the receptor α-subunit, a precursor processing enzyme cleavage site, then the ...

Notes: [Auszug] Using in situ hybridization, Kvl.4 and Kvl.2 messenger RNAs exhibit distinct but overlapping expression patterns in rat brain, with co-expression in many neurons7'8. The Kvl.4 protein appears to be localized specifically to axons and terminals of neurons that express this gene7. Immunostaining of ...

Notes: Abstract The detailed flow structure behind an impulsively started circular cylinder has been investigated experimentally. The Reynolds number based on the steady state velocity and the diameter of the cylinder was 500 to 3,000. This work is unique in that unsteady spatial velocities were measured simultaneously by a quantitative visualization technique — Laser Induced Photochemical Anemometry (LIPA). The surface vorticity at g/q = π/2 and vorticity distribution behind the cylinder in the Lagrangian coordinates (i.e. coordinates fixed on the cylinder) were calculated from the measured velocities. The surface vorticity shows in the early stage of flow development a close agreement with the previous results obtained by analytical and numerical approaches. The large-field velocity and vorticity information provides an insight into the formation process of the vortices downstream of the cylinder. In addition to the quantitative information, the results of visualized flow pattern obtained by LIPA technique are also presented.

Notes: Abstract A series of cobalt-matrix diamond composites was fabricated by hot pressing, and their microstructure, physical properties, transverse rupture strength and resulting fracture surface were studied in detail. Segments of the diamond composites were manufactured, and a one-segment circular sawblade was used for the evaluation of the sawing performance. Results show that the fracture surface of composites containing a cobalt matrix exhibits an excellent ductile appearance, while the fracture surface of composites containing an additive of tin powder in the cobalt matrix displays a less ductile behaviour due to the existence of a tin-rich brittle phase. It is also found that a diamond composite having low porosity, high hardness, and less surface attack of diamond particles will result in a low value of radial sawblade wear.

Notes: Summary A series of polymer-encapsulated packing materials for reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography was prepared by radical polymerization of ethylstyrene and divinylbenzene with vinyl-modified silica in solution. Some characteristics such as polymer structure, swelling propensity, residual silanols, column efficiency and retention properties were evaluated. Such material is easy to pack and yields high column efficiencies. Its superior performance for the separation of mixtures of aromatic hydrocarbons, amino- and hydroxyl group containing compounds are demonstrated by several examples.

Notes: Summary A set of 14 probes from wheat cDNA clones was used to search for restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) in six barley lines. The degree of polymorphism among the lines varied greatly between probes and between the various restriction enzymes. Two probes revealed a high degree of polymorphism in all probe/enzyme combinations. Seven of 14 probes did not reveal RFLP. The average level of polymorphism based on all 840 pairwise comparisons was 14.0%, which is higher than has been reported in wheat, but lower than in maize, rice, potato and lettuce. Most of the probes that detected RFLP correspond to sites on the long arms of wheat chromosomes.

Notes: Abstract. Assuming that the S-matrix on non-commutative (NC) spacetime can still be developed perturbatively in terms of the time-ordered exponential of the interaction Lagrangian, we investigate the perturbation theory of NC field theory. We first work out with care some typical Green functions starting from the usual concepts of time-ordering and commutation relations for free fields. The results are found to be very different from those in the naive approach pursued in the literature. A simple framework then appears naturally which can incorporate the new features of our results and which turns out to be the usual time-ordered perturbation theory extended to the NC context. We provide the prescriptions for computing S-matrix elements and Green functions in this framework. We also emphasize that the naive seemingly covariant approach cannot be reproduced from the current one, in contrast to the field theory on ordinary spacetime. We attribute this to the phase-like non-local interaction intrinsic in NC field theory which modifies the analyticity properties of the Green functions significantly.

Notes: Abstract. We examine the unitarity issue in the recently proposed time-ordered perturbation theory on noncommutative (NC) spacetime. We show that unitarity is preserved as long as the interaction Lagrangian is explicitly hermitian. We explain why it makes sense to distinguish the hermiticity of the Lagrangian from that of the action in perturbative NC field theory and how this requirement fits in this framework.
