Notes: Abstract. In lidar measurements noise and fluctuations strongly affect the results. The reason is a rapid decrease of the signal-to-noise ratio with an increase of distance. The differential absorption lidar (DIAL) is particularly sensitive to the signal instabilities. In this paper we present a method of the signal acquisition that is suitable for registration of both large light fluxes and single photons. We also present new method of solution of the DIAL equations. Compared to the traditional algorithm used for signal elaboration our procedures are much more stable and they are able to increase the effective range of lidar measurements.

Notes: [Auszug] The experiments were conducted by continuous vacuum evaporation of aromatic hydrocarbons from a Knudsen cell at pressures of 5 x 10~5 atmospheres or less with a crystal mounted on a stirrup of a Cahn EG electro-balance. Fig. 1 is a sketch of the apparatus, the most troublesome feature of which is ...

Notes: Summary A method for a screening program for haemoglobinopathies in a starch agar gel mixed with saponin is presented. Normal and abnormal blood containing haemoglobins S, C, I, M Boston, D Punjab, beta thalassaemia major and beta thalassaemia minor, were applied, in a tray with the capacity for 100 samples. The electrophoresis was performed in 45 min using 300 V. This method offers special advantages for the examination of a large number of samples, using a small amount of whole blood and without the previous preparation of haemoglobin solution.

Notes: Abstract The decomposition of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide and oxygen in an argon plasma is studied. The overall kinetic and energy-related parameters of the process, as well as the quenching rates of the products, are evaluated on the basis of measured radial and longitudinal profiles of both temperature and degree of decomposition in the high-temperature reaction zone.
