    The distribution of antimony in the oxide layer formed by potentiostatic oxidation of Pb-Sb alloy (1979)

    Notizen: Abstract The distribution of antimony within the oxide films on Pb-Sb alloy prepared by potentiostatic oxidation in H2SO4 solutions was examined by SIMS. The study of oxide films prepared by applying different potentials for three hours showed that two types of film were obtained depending on whether the potential was more negative or more positive than 1·5 V. Antimony profiles were obtained for films at several stages in the initial growth. It was found that antimony was retained in the oxide film at 1·5 V during both nucleation and two- or three-dimensional growth of PbO2 and at 1·6 V during the lateral overlaps of three-dimensional centres of PbO2. Relationships between the antimony distribution profiles and the oxide film growth are discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract The effect of surface treatment of the titanium base on the characteristics of the DSA-type positive grids and plates was examined, using mechanically polished, sandblasted and chemically etched titanium. It was found that the anodic durability of the grids and the service life of the plates were greatly increased and the self-discharge rate of the DSA-type plates was significantly decreased by sandblasting and chemical etching of the titanium base.

    Notizen: Abstract The electron conduction properties of the passive film on nickel in acid solution were studied by differential capacitance of nickel electrode in the passive condition, and by redox reactions of the Fe2+/Fe3+ and Q/H2Q systems. A large capacitance value of the passive electrode, which is possibly comparable to that of the double layer, can be ascribed to the space charge capacitance in the passive film which is highly nonstoichiometric. The redox reaction currents of these systems may be sustained by tunnelling of charge carriers through the space charge layer in the passive film, if it can be accepted that the ‘tunnel effect’ commences when the electric field strength in the space charge layer is of the order of 106 V/cm. Consequently, the passive film can not be an insulator, at least in acid solutions.

    Notizen: Summary When methyl mercury chloride was administered orally the amount of mercury excretion with feces of germfree mice was noticeably lower than that of the control mice. Germfree mice excreted 24 percent of the administered mercury within 10 days of administration while the control mice excreted 46 percent. Mercury retention in the organs of germfree mice was slightly higher than in the control mice. These results suggest that the existence of microorganisms in animal intestines are concerned with mercury excretion in the animal body.

    Notizen: Abstract We report here a very rare case of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with a minor bcr-abl transcript, which developed following long-term chemotherapy with fluorouracil for esophageal carcinoma. A 64-year-old male patient was diagnosed with CML. Four years earlier, he had suffered from esophageal carcinoma, which was treated by surgical resection followed by oral administration of fluorouracil (200 mg/day) for 4 years. Molecular analysis of his Philadelphia chromosome (Ph) using reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and subsequent sequencing revealed a minor bcr-abl transcript. The clinical course of this patient was aggressive with a short chronic phase of CML. This is the first reported case of secondary CML with a minor bcr-abl transcript.

    Notizen: Abstract We report four patients with various types of hydrocephalus in whom constructive interference in steady state (CISS) MRI disclosed the cause of the hydrocephalus. The imaging clearly delineated an abnormal contour of the ventricular system and intraventricular septa, essential information for surgical planning, including endoscopic surgery. Postoperative CISS images were useful for showing not only regression of hydrocephalus but also the patency of small fenestrations.
