Notes: The effects of finite-switching rates of media on measured coercivities are studied using two methods. The first starts from expressions for the switching times of magnetic media and goes on to derive simple expressions for the coercivities of media subjected to various applied field wave forms. The second uses a well-developed numerical micromagnetic model to investigate both the switching times and coercivities. The variations of coercivity with frequency derived using the two methods show similar results. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Uncontrolled weeds reduced tobacco yields by 26% over a 4-year period, caused substantial changes in the grade distribution, significantly reduced the price index and affected the chemical composition of flue-cured tobacco (cultivar Hicks). Treatments with diphenamid, pebulate, or benfluralin-pubulate visibly injured transplanted tobacco. After diphenamid treatment, tobacco generally did not differ from the cultivated controls in yield or gross dollar returns. In contrast, the mixture of benfluralin-pebulate increased dollar returns per hectare. The most striking differences followed pebulate applied alone which increased tobacco yields, significantly increased dollar returns, and elevated the levels of total nitrogen and alkaloids in tobacco leaves. All herbicide treatments tended to improve the grading quality of Hicks tobacco.

Notes: [Auszug] THE part played by the 'granular' forms of the tubercle bacillus in the infective process and their place in the life-history of the mycobacterium are still matters of controversy. At present there is a tendency to regard them merely as by-products, seen in old cultures, or as atypical forms ...

Notes: [Auszug] Destructive interference may lead to complete cancellation when light waves travelling in different directions cross, and in three-dimensional space this occurs along lines that are vortices of electromagnetic energy flow. Here we confirm theoretical predictions by experimentally creating ...

Notes: [Auszug] Video feedback occurs whenever a video camera is directed at a screen displaying the image currently being recorded by the camera. It can be observed in everyday situations, for example at sporting events when a stadium's display screen comes into the camera's view. Here we consider how this ...
